TrainLas Vegas was just a rest stop for travelers before 1904, when the railroad tracks between Salt Lake City and Los Angeles reached itand thus a new railroad town was born. In 1921, the Union Pacific Railroad took over the railroad from the San Pedro, Los Angeles & Salt Lake Railroad company. Between 1939 and 1947 33 trains a day traveled between Las Vegas and Los Angeles. In 1971, Amtrak took over the railroad service, and in 1997 discontinued Desert Wind and any passenger service. Today, there is no railroad access to Las Vegas, except for freight trains. The closest Amtrak stop to Las Vegas is Needles, California. Greyhound Bus Service, 200 S.
