Las Vegas Strip Photo Tour

The Strip, an All-American Road, is part of
Las Vegas Boulevard, once referred to as Highway 91 or the Los Angeles Highway.
The Strip, between Stratosphere, the north end, and Mandalay Bay, the south end, is four miles long.

The Strip got its name from Guy McAfee, a former Los Angeles policeman who was the owner of the Pair-O-Dice club, located on the site of former New Frontier. He began referring to this stretch of Highway 91 as the Strip, because it reminded him of the Los Angeles Sunset strip between Hollywood and Beverly Hills. The name stuck.

The first casino on the Las Vegas Strip opened in 1941; it was called El Rancho Vegas, at the SW corner of Las Vegas Blvd and Sahara Ave. El Rancho Vegas burnt down in 1960.
