Spring Mountain Ranch
Spring
Mountain Ranch State Park (875-4141) is located 15 miles from the Strip,
in the Red Rock Canyon area. A sandstone cabin and blacksmith's shop,
built in 1864, are, along with the Mormon Fort, the oldest buildings in
the Las Vegas valley. The 520-acre area had several owners between 1876
and 1974, when the Nevada Division of State Parks purchased it. Famous
owners include German movie actress Vera Krupp (between 1955-67) and Howard
Hughes, who bought the property in 1967, but may never have visited it.
The visitor center is the actual living room where Vera Krupp was robbed
at gun point.
The park is open to the public. The main ranch house is open daily from
10 am until 4 pm. The picnic area is open from 8 am until dusk. A group
use area, up to 300 people, is available by reservation only.
The park is used by the Super Summer Theatre for outdoor performances
(see www.supersummertheatre.com)
and several living history programs take place during spring and fall.

There is also a master-planned community called Spring Mountain Ranch, East of highway 95 and North of Grand Teton.
