New in Las Vegas

The Mob Museum

The Mob Museum (the National Museum of Organized Crime and Law Enforcement). 300 Stewart Ave. The $42 million museum includes 17,000 sq ft of exhibition space on three floors in addition to a specialty retail store, special event areas, educational areas and office space. Admission is $18 for adults ages 18 and over; $12 for children ages 5 to 17 and students ages 18 to 23 with ID; $14 for seniors, military, law enforcement and teachers; and $10 for Nevada residents of all ages. Museum hours are Sundays through Thursdays from 10 am to 7 pm; and Fridays and Saturdays 10 am until 8 pm. (themobmuseum.org.)

Tivoli

Tivoli Village at Queensridge is a mixed-use center on Rampart Blvd at Alta Dr, just north of the Boca Park shopping center and just east of Suncoast Resort and Queensridge Condominiums. This European-style center, with ample underground parking, has retail stores, restaurants, and business offices. Special events, such as DJs and fashion shows, are offered during weekends.

Cosmopolitan

The Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas. The $3.9 billion resort is located between Bellagio and CityCenter and has 2,998 rooms in its two 53-story towers, a 74,000 sq ft casino, along restaurants, retail outlets, a spa, and a day/night club.

CityCenter

CityCenter. 3730 Las Vegas Blvd (S). www.citycenter.com. A 67-acre mixed-use development between Monte Carlo and Bellagio. The $8.5 billion cost is shared 50-50% by MGM Mirage and Infinity World Development Corp., a subsidiary of Dubai World. It is the largest privately funded development in the US. The CityCenter tram stops at Bellagio, CityCenter’s retail area (Crystals), and Monte Carlo.

CityCenter includes:

  • Aria, a 61-story, 4000-room resort and casino. The casino is 150,000 sq ft, small compared to other casinos. 568 suites, of the 4000 rooms, have floor-to-ceiling windows.
  • Crystals, a 500,000 sq ft retail and entertainment area, including restaurants and art exhibits. It has a multi-angle rooftop.
  • Veer, the leaning towers of Las Vegas, at 5 degrees inclination Veer towers, two 37-story residential towers with 335 condominiums in each tower. The towers, each with a swimming pool on the roof, are referred to as East Tower and West Tower.
  • Vdara, all-suites, non-gaming, no-smoking condo-hotel. A 57-story tower with 1,543 units, ranging from 500 to 1,650 sq ft. It is connected to Bellagio through a pedestrian walkway. The property also has an 18,000 sq ft, two-level spa with 11 treatment rooms and three relaxation lounges. Big Edge is a sculpture by Nancy Rubins in front of Vdara CityCenter, Vdara.
  • Mandarin Oriental, 47-story luxury hotel with 392 rooms and suites, below the lobby located on the 23rd floor, and 227 residential units above the 23rd floor. A spa and a restaurant (Twist) are also part of the development.
  • Harmon, a 23-story boutique hotel with 400 rooms, to be imploded in 2012 due to construction defects.
