Boulder CityBoulder City, located 24 miles southeast of Las Vegas, was founded in 1931 as a town for the Hoover Dam construction workers (5,000 people) and was, in its beginnings, under federal control. Today's population is about 16,000. Boulder City, eight miles from Hoover Dam, is the only place in Nevada where gambling is prohibited. Worth visiting are the Boulder Dam Hotel and the Historic District along Nevada Way. The municipal airport offers daily flights to the Grand Canyon and skydiving. Attractions in and around Boulder City include art fairs, Black Canyon raft trips, Hoover Dam and its museum, Colorado River tours, Lake Mead cruises, Nevada State Railroad Depot, skydiving, and golf. Check out the new tourist attraction Bootleg Canyon Flightlines. See also www.bouldercity.com and Boulder City Chamber of Commerce. |
